Action for Plant Conservation and Ecological Restoration (APCER) is a locally registered civil society organization (CSO) in Ethiopia that has been given legal personality by the Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) through Civil Society Organization Proclamation No. 1113/2019
Our Mission
To conserve plant biodiversity, restore degraded ecosystems, and strengthen community stewardship through science-based conservation, ecological restoration, and sustainable environmental practices.
Our Core Objectives
- Scientific Plant Conservation: Protecting endemic, threatened, and endangered plant species in Ethiopia through scientifically informed in situ and ex situ conservation approaches.
- Ecological Restoration: Restoring degraded forests, habitats, and landscapes through the use of indigenous plant species, natural regeneration, watershed rehabilitation, and climate-resilient restoration practices.
- Community Capacity Building: Building the knowledge and skills of local communities through environmental education, training, awareness, and participatory conservation initiatives.
- Collaborative Research: Collaborating with universities, research institutions, government bodies, and national and international partners to advance research on plant biodiversity, ecosystem health, and conservation.
- Climate Resilience: Developing and implementing nature-based initiatives that strengthen ecosystem resilience and help communities respond to the impacts of climate change.
- Sustainable Livelihoods and Ecotourism: Promoting environmentally sustainable livelihoods and responsible ecotourism that support local communities while contributing to biodiversity conservation.
- Seed Banks and Plant Genetic Resources: Establishing and supporting community-based seed banks and other conservation systems to safeguard native plant genetic resources for present and future generations.
- Policy Advocacy and Technical Support: Working with relevant governmental and environmental authorities to provide scientific and technical support for plant conservation, ecological restoration, and the implementation of environmental policies and legal frameworks.
